Jess Nevins is the author of a number of genre reference works. His The Encyclopedia of Fantastic Victoriana (Monkeybrain, 2005) was a finalist for the World Fantasy Award. Other reference works by him include The Encyclopedia of Golden Age Superheroes (self-published, 2013), The Victorian Bookshelf: An Introduction to 61 Essential Novels (McFarland, 2016), The Encyclopedia of Pulp Heroes (self-published, 2017), The Evolution of the Costumed Avenger: The 4000-Year History of the Superhero (Praeger, 2017), Horror Needs No Passport: 20th Century Horror Literature Outside the US & UK (self-published, 2018), and A Chilling Age of Horror: How 20th Century Horror Literature Changed the Genre (Praeger, 2020). He has contributed chapters to the Oxford Handbook of Science Fiction and the Routledge Companion to Cyberpunk Culture.
His short fiction has been published in Shimmer and Skelos, and he's written roleplaying games for EvilHat.
By day, Jess Nevins is a college librarian in Tomball, Texas, husband to Alicia, father to Henry, and caretaker of cats and rats.
