L. Penelope is a web developer, former independent filmmaker, and author of fantasy and paranormal romance. Her epic romantic fantasy series Earthsinger Chronicles includes Song of Blood & Stone (St. Martin's Press, 2018; TIME Magazine 100 Best Fantasy Books of All Time), Whispers of Shadow & Flame (St. Martin's Griffin, 2019), Cry of Metal & Bone (St. Martin's Griffin, 2020), and Requiem of Silence (St. Martin's Griffin, 2021), as well as the standalone novel The Monsters We Defy (forthcoming from Orbit in 2022).
Her short fiction has appeared in the likes of Sycorax's Daughters (Cedar Grove Publishing, 2017; Bram Stoker Award finalist for Superior Achievement in an Anthology), Where the Veil is Thin (Outland Entertainment, 2019), Graffiti (Aunt Lute Books, 2019), and Heart's Kiss: A Romance Magazine.
Her debut novel won the 2016 Self-Publishing Ebook Award for Fiction from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association before being picked up for traditional publication by St. Martin's Press. She is an alumna of VONA/Voices (2013, 2014) and the Hurston/Wright Foundation's writers workshop (2011, 2015). Equally left- and right-brained, she studied filmmaking and computer science at Howard University and sometimes dreams in HTML.
